# Brief 11b — Startup ideas grounded in 2026 platform pain

Prepared 2026-09-07 for Gocha (solo founder, Tbilisi) + Claude (agent). Excludes painboard, threadbus, runbyagent.

Method: 48 web searches + 6 Hacker News (Algolia) queries + ~45 page fetches, July–September 2026 emphasis. Reddit itself is blocked from this sandbox, so r/redditdev threads are cited via a secondary source that quotes them (marked as such). X post pages and devcommunity.x.com are robots-blocked; those URLs are cited from search-result text and the X changelog. Nothing below is invented; where I could not find first-hand evidence I say "not found".

LinkedIn/Threads/Bluesky: searched; found only vendor comparison listicles, no dated first-hand migration-pain threads in Jul–Sep 2026. Not found → no idea built on it.

## Ranking (first-dollar speed × evidence strength)

| # | Idea | Type | First dollar | Evidence | Build |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Off-PaaS: agent migrates your Heroku/Render app to your own box (or usectl) | agent does the work | days (HN thread commenters are pre-qualified) | strong, dated, first-hand | 2 days |
| 2 | Paddle-Ready: pre-approval audit + monthly 1% declaration pack for Georgian founders | 1-day ship, same-week charge | same week (local founder chats) | medium, first-hand, small pool | 1 day |
| 3 | GEO Patch: agent ships the llms.txt / schema / comparison-page PR that AI engines cite | 1-day ship (MVP) / agent does the work | same week | strong macro, weak "I need this" posts | 1–3 days |
| 4 | Builder CRM on X "owned reads" (the BlackMagic-shaped hole) | product | 2–3 weeks | strong (two dead tools) | 6–8 days |
| 5 | Devvit Port: agent ports your PRAW/Python Reddit bot before Dec 31 | agent does the work, deadline-driven | 1–2 weeks | medium (relayed threads) | 3 days |

## Idea 1 — Off-PaaS: "We move your app off Heroku/Render in 48h, you keep the git-push workflow"

**Pain (one sentence):** Solo builders on Heroku (frozen, no roadmap) and Render (egress cut 20×, Pro bill +40–75%) know they should leave but the migration is a week of un-fun DevOps they keep postponing.

**Evidence people have it now**
1. HN "Render.com Raises Prices", Apr 23, 2026 — user *Kkoala*: "Bandwidth limits on Pro are insanely low… Time to move to something else, unfortunately :( For context, my bill is going up by 75%. Solo-builder and medium/high bandwidth app"; *bjhess*: "Being forced to the Pro plan from our prior Organization plan is increasing our bill by 40%." https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47882707
2. HN "Tell HN: Render.com cuts included bandwidth on Pro plan, from 1 TB to 25GB", May 22, 2026 — *thm*: "…a major price hike for indie developers… current customers have until August 1st to switch (they even default you into the Scale $499 plan…)". https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48235993
3. HN "An Update on Heroku", Feb 6, 2026 (525 pts / 352 comments) — *paxys*: "If any Heroku customer is reading this and not immediately going 'we need to move off Heroku ASAP' all future problems are their own fault"; *nextaccountic*: "I am researching what to use in this space – a Vercel-ish clone on cheap VPS – … is Dokploy really the best option? … Right now I am using Coolify but so far it has not been exactly reliable". https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46913903
4. (bonus) Judoscale, Apr 7, 2026: at a Ruby conference "Every single one of them are making plans to migrate due to these recent communications". https://judoscale.com/blog/heroku-whats-going-on (HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47669749)

**Who has it:** a solo builder or 2-person team with 1–3 Rails/Node/Django apps + Postgres on Heroku Basic/Standard or Render Pro, paying $50–$400/mo, no Kubernetes experience, who reads HN.

**Smallest product:** a fixed-price migration. Input: repo URL + current platform + env vars. Output: Dockerfile/Procfile-equivalent, Postgres dump/restore, DNS cut-over, deployed on (a) usectl or (b) their own Hetzner box, with `git push` deploy preserved. Includes a 7-day "we watch it" window.

**What exists and why it doesn't solve it**
- Cloud 66 "Migrate from Heroku" https://www.cloud66.com/migrate-from-heroku/ and Fairwinds/Tasrie K8s migration guides — agency-shaped, enterprise pricing, or DIY blog posts.
- Coolify/Dokploy/Dokku — free, but HN thread itself says Coolify "not exactly reliable" and the bex.co teardown (Aug 24, 2026) notes the self-hoster "owns backups, upgrades, and on-call for the box". https://bex.co/blog/2026/08/24/back4app-heroku-alternatives-hetzner-cx22-wins
- Railway/Fly — another metered PaaS; Fly added snapshot/IP fees Jan 1, 2026. https://bex.co/blog/2026/08/21/your-paas-bill-lied-cost-teardown-vercel-railway-render-flyio-hetzner
- Nobody sells "done in 48h for a flat fee, solo-builder priced".

**Price / who pays:** $349 per app (one Postgres, one worker) flat; $99/mo optional "keep it running" (backups, upgrades, alerts). Buyer is the solo builder with a credit card and an ugly Render bill.

**How the agent runs it day to day**
- Agent: scans HN/X for new "Render/Heroku bill" complaints and replies with a real cost delta; on intake, reads the repo, writes Dockerfile + compose/k8s manifests, runs the build on usectl, drafts the cut-over runbook, runs smoke tests, writes the customer a status thread; posts each migration as an episode.
- Founder: 30-min call, approves the runbook, does the DNS flip and the Postgres restore with the customer (secrets), handles refunds.

**Build estimate:** 2 founder-days (intake form, Stripe/Paddle link, migration playbook + agent prompts; usectl already does the deploy).

**First ten customers, exactly where:** reply directly to *Kkoala*, *bjhess*, *thm*, *nextaccountic* on the HN threads above; the ~20 people in the Apr 23 and May 22 Render threads; HN search "moving off Heroku" (Algolia, weekly); Judoscale's Ruby audience (comment on their post); r/rails and r/django "leaving Heroku" posts (agent drafts, founder posts — Reddit blocks bots).

**Kill signal:** 10 targeted replies + 1 Show HN in 14 days produce zero paid intakes, or first two migrations each take >3 founder-days.

**Biggest risk:** services don't compound; each migration is bespoke (weird buildpacks, Redis/Sidekiq/cron). Mitigate by refusing anything beyond "web + worker + Postgres + Redis" for the first 10.

---

## Idea 2 — Paddle-Ready + 1%-Pack: payments and monthly compliance for Georgian (and Caucasus) solo founders

**Pain (one sentence):** A Tbilisi founder cannot get Stripe, gets rejected by Paddle for reasons not in the docs, and then has to convert every Wise/Paddle payout to GEL at the NBG rate on the receipt date and file on rs.ge by the 15th or eat a 100 GEL fine.

**Evidence people have it now**
1. Pavel Gajvoronski (solo, Tbilisi-based, EU AI Act SaaS), dev.to, Apr 23, 2026: "Paddle rejected my SaaS 3 times" — rejections Apr 5/9/12 for refund-policy qualifiers, legal-entity mismatch ("website said 'Complyance Inc.' but the founder was registered as an individual entrepreneur in Georgia"), and service-type ambiguity; approved Apr 17. https://dev.to/pavelbuild/paddle-rejected-my-saas-3-times-heres-what-they-check-that-isnt-in-their-docs-5dnn
2. Legal-Vista, Jun 8, 2026: "Stripe does not currently support Georgia as a country for domestic merchant accounts"; PayPal withdrawals Visa-only; declarations must use "the National Bank of Georgia exchange rate on the income receipt date—not conversion date". https://legal-vista.com/georgia-ie-receive-payments-stripe-wise-paypal
3. Register-Company.ge, updated Jul 2026: "Georgia is not a supported Stripe country, and never has been"; Lemon Squeezy has Georgia "absent from eligible payout countries"; Paddle works. https://register-company.ge/blog/payment-processors-georgian-company/
4. (older, still live) Shopify Community, Feb 1, 2025, merchant *Printlee*: "im based in georgia(east europe)… all of the listed gateways either dont accept dropshipping or georgian stores". https://community.shopify.com/t/payment-gateway/391568
5. Penalty mechanics: 100 GEL per month for a missed (even zero) declaration; due the 15th. https://tpsolution.ge/tax-reporting-obligations-in-georgia/

**Who has it:** Georgian/Armenian/Azerbaijani individual entrepreneurs with Small Business Status selling SaaS or digital goods abroad, 0–$5k MRR, no accountant yet, and the expat "1% tax" crowd who register IEs via Gegidze/ExpatHub (Gegidze itself: "Most founders outsource this to keep their time on product" https://www.gegidze.com/post/country-georgia-country-ie-for-saas-founders-is-the-1-tax-ri).

**Smallest product (ships in one day):**
- *Paddle-Ready* ($49, one-off): agent reads your landing page, terms, refund policy and entity name and returns the exact fixes for the three undocumented Paddle checks above, plus a filled application text. Same-week chargeable.
- *1%-Pack* ($15/mo): upload/forward Wise + Paddle payout CSVs; agent converts each receipt at the NBG rate on the receipt date, produces the monthly turnover figure and a reminder on the 10th; founder pastes into rs.ge.

**What exists and why it doesn't solve it**
- StartGlobal "Stripe in Georgia via US LLC": $399 + $99/yr to $149/mo, and creates a second tax residency problem. https://startglobal.co/us/international/georgia/stripe/
- Gegidze / ExpatHub / TPsolution accounting — human bookkeepers at agency prices; no self-serve.
- Payze (YC) — local acquiring for Caucasus/Central Asia merchants, not MoR for selling abroad. https://ycombinator.com/companies/payze
- Paddle's own docs — the rejection reasons literally aren't in them (per the dev.to post).

**Price / who pays:** $49 one-off (Paddle-Ready), $15/mo (1%-Pack). The founder pays; it's cheaper than one 100 GEL fine.

**How the agent runs it:** Agent does the audit, currency math, monthly pack and reminders; founder (who lives this himself) reviews edge cases (mixed GEL/USD income, threshold approach) and handles Georgian-language support. Not tax advice — say so.

**Build estimate:** 1 founder-day for Paddle-Ready (form + agent prompt + payment link), +2 days for the CSV→NBG-rate pipeline.

**First ten customers:** Pavel Gajvoronski (dev.to author) directly; Gegidze/ExpatHub Telegram & Facebook groups for IE holders; Tbilisi coworking (Terminal, Impact Hub) Slack/Telegram; r/Sakartvelo "IE tax" threads (found only via search, not fetched); the Georgian devs in your X audience; comment on the register-company.ge and legal-vista posts.

**Kill signal:** 20 direct DMs to IE founders yield <3 paid Paddle-Ready audits in 10 days.

**Biggest risk:** tiny market (Georgian IEs selling SaaS abroad) and liability optics around tax filings. Keep it "prep + reminder", never "we file".

---

## Idea 3 — GEO Patch: the agent ships the PR that makes your SaaS site citable by AI answers

**Pain (one sentence):** Since Google made AI answers the default (Jul 10, 2026) a small SaaS blog loses most of its clicks, and the AI-visibility tools founders can afford only measure the problem, they don't fix the page.

**Evidence people have it now**
1. TechTimes, Jul 13, 2026: AI answers default for all queries from Jul 10; Chartbeat data "small publishers lost 60% of search referrals"; Pew: 8% click when an AI summary appears vs 15% without. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/320298/20260713/google-replaced-its-default-search-ai-how-get-blue-links-back.htm
2. gHacks, Jul 23, 2026: publishers weighing blocking Google; CTR 15% → 8% → 1% inside summaries. https://www.ghacks.net/2026/07/23/reddit-and-major-publishers-consider-blocking-google-as-ai-overviews-cut-search-referral-traffic/
3. Digital Applied audit of 500 SaaS landing pages, Apr 2026: median site scores 3/8 on citation factors; llms.txt +24%, comparison sections +38%, SoftwareApplication schema +18%; domain authority barely correlates (+0.18) while page structure does (+0.71). https://www.digitalapplied.com/blog/ai-citation-visibility-audit-500-saas-sites-2026
4. Austin Heaton, 2026: "SaaS organic traffic down 30%+ … even though rankings improved". https://www.austinheaton.com/blog/why-your-saas-organic-traffic-is-down-30-in-2026-even-though-your-rankings-improved
- Direct "is there a tool" posts from named indie founders in Jul–Sep 2026: **not found** (only vendor content). Treat the "I need this" side as unproven.

**Who has it:** a solo SaaS founder with a marketing site + blog on Next/Astro in a GitHub repo, $1–20k MRR, who watched Search Console clicks fall since July and will not pay $250+/mo.

**Smallest product:** paste repo + domain → agent opens a PR adding `/llms.txt`, `SoftwareApplication` JSON-LD, answer-format H2 rewrites on top 5 pages, one "X vs Y" comparison page draft, and a before/after 8-point score. Founder merges. One-day MVP = llms.txt + schema + score; charge $79 the same week.

**What exists and why it doesn't solve it**
- Sitefire (YC W26) $250/$500/$1000/mo, targets marketing teams. https://yctierlist.com/w26/sitefire/ ; launch https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47457472
- Profound / Peec ($95+) / Otterly ($29) / Rankscale ($17) — tracking only: "like buying a scale and expecting to lose weight". https://subscribepr.com/blog/how-much-does-an-ai-visibility-company-cost/
- llms.txt generators (many blog posts) — no schema, no page rewrite, no PR.

**Price / who pays:** $79 one-off "patch", $149 with comparison page; $29/mo re-score + monthly patch. Founder pays.

**How the agent runs it:** agent does 95% (crawl, score, write, open PR, re-score after merge, post the before/after as an episode). Founder: approves copy in comparison pages (competitor claims), handles refunds.

**Build estimate:** 1 day (score + llms.txt + schema PR), 3 days with page rewrites and the comparison generator.

**First ten customers:** your own X builder audience (offer free patch to 3 accounts with public MRR in exchange for before/after posts); Indie Hackers SEO threads (e.g. Samuel Afriyie's Mar 23 post, whose comments mention GEO lifting demo requests https://www.indiehackers.com/post/we-ll-do-seo-later-cost-me-6-months-of-organic-traffic-here-s-what-i-wish-i-started-on-day-1-61cecf9462); r/SaaS "traffic down since July" posts (agent finds, founder replies); Ahrefs MCP is attached to this session — use Brand Radar to pull sites in your niche with zero AI citations and cold-DM them.

**Kill signal:** 15 free/paid patches without a measurable citation or Search-Console change within 30 days, or <5 paid in the first 3 weeks.

**Biggest risk:** the lift is hard to attribute and vendors are already screaming "GEO"; you'll be one more voice unless the public before/after numbers are honest and repeatable.

---

## Idea 4 — Builder CRM on "owned reads": the BlackMagic-shaped hole

**Pain (one sentence):** BlackMagic died Jul 1 and Hypefury walked away from X in August, so a solo founder building in public has no cheap tool that tells him who keeps engaging, who to follow up with, and what worked — while X now sells reads of your own account for $0.001.

**Evidence people have it now**
1. BlackMagic.so shutdown notice: shut down Jul 1, 2026; "Active subscriptions will terminate automatically"; users lost CRM notes, lists, follow-up reminders unless exported. https://blackmagic.so/ ; https://eden.so/blog/blackmagic-shut-down/
2. Hypefury pricing FAQ (live, Sep 2026): "Nope! Hypefury no longer supports 𝕏 :(" — X scheduling, auto-plugs, evergreen reposts gone. https://hypefury.com/pricing ; https://eden.so/blog/hypefury-dropped-x-support/
3. Eden, 2026: "what survived the API purge" lists BlackMagic (sold at a discount, then shut down), Followerwonk (absorbed), SparkToro (dropped X) — a "graveyard". https://eden.so/blog/best-x-research-tools/
4. Price signal that makes it viable: X changelog Apr 16, 2026 — "Owned Reads" $0.001 per resource. https://docs.x.com/changelog

**Who has it:** build-in-public founders with 2k–50k followers who used BlackMagic/Hypefury's CRM or auto-plug, still post daily, and now use spreadsheets.

**Smallest product:** connect X (user-context OAuth) → agent pulls only *your* posts, replies and mentions (owned reads), builds a people table (who engaged, how often, last touch), a daily "3 people to reply to" list (you post the reply from the app — no API reply, so no summoned-rule problem), and a weekly "what worked" note. BYO X credits so the read cost is the customer's.

**What exists and why it doesn't solve it**
- Tweet Hunter CRM at $49/mo (per eden.so), X Premium+ $40/mo — analytics, not a CRM, and expensive for the target.
- OpenTweet ($11.99/mo, "no API key", MCP server) https://opentweet.io/blog/x-api-cost-2026 and Postproxy https://postproxy.dev/blog/x-api-pricing-2026/ — publishing relays, not relationship tracking; OpenTweet does not disclose how it posts, which is an account-safety question.
- Circleboom/Fedica — follower analytics for marketers, not builder follow-ups.

**Price / who pays:** $12/mo + BYO X credits (typical 2k-follower account reads under $1/mo at $0.001). Builder pays.

**How the agent runs it:** agent ingests, scores, drafts the three replies, writes the weekly note, and uses the founder's own account as the public demo episode. Founder taps send, handles OAuth support.

**Build estimate:** 6–8 founder-days (OAuth, ingestion, people table, digest). Not a one-day product.

**First ten customers:** ex-BlackMagic and ex-Hypefury users replying to those shutdown posts on X (search "BlackMagic shut down" / "Hypefury no longer supports"); the eden.so replacement posts' comment sections; your own X builder audience.

**Kill signal:** read costs per active user exceed $2/mo, or 30 days after launch fewer than 15 people connect an account.

**Biggest risk:** X changes owned-read pricing or user-context scopes again (they moved prices three times in 2026). Keep zero automated writes so nothing you build needs X "written approval".

---

## Idea 5 — Devvit Port: the agent ports your Reddit bot before the Dec 31 deadline

**Pain (one sentence):** Reddit is closing the Data API to third-party apps and paying $1,000 to those who port to Devvit by Dec 31, 2026, but Devvit is TypeScript-only and most hobby/mod bots are Python/PRAW, and new API approvals are stuck.

**Evidence people have it now**
1. Reddit Help, 2026 Migration Program Terms: program "from March 31, 2026 to December 31, 2026"; apps must predate Mar 25, 2026; $1,000 one-time award, limited. https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/47822311698452-Reddit-Developer-Platform-App-Migration-Program-2026-Terms
2. redditapis.com (relaying the Aug 5, 2026 announcement): "we'll gradually start restricting all new requests and third-party apps will be required to port and operate through our Developer Platform"; "Python remains unsupported on Devvit". https://www.redditapis.com/blogs/reddit-developer-platform-migration-2026
3. r/redditdev threads (relayed by https://www.redditapis.com/blogs/reddit-data-api-2026 — Reddit is blocked from this sandbox; thread IDs date them to ~Nov 2025–Feb 2026): u/Maleficent_Earth2210 "Anyone else struggling to get Reddit Data API approval…" https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/comments/1r2ukkb/anyone_else_struggling_to_get_reddit_data_api/ ; u/nikthefurry "i dont believe anyone is getting api access for small personal use at this point … tickets rejected, r/modsupport modmail ignored, admin dm ignored" https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/comments/1oxazn8/need_api_access/
4. Collateral: GummySearch shut down Nov 2025 (no commercial license) https://www.readyt.ai/blog/reddit-automation-crackdown-2026/ ; validation tools PainMap/TrendyRevenue/Preuve AI called out as exposed, Aug 31, 2026 https://www.roastidea.com/blog/reddit-is-killing-its-public-api-heres-what-it-means-for-startup-validation-tool

**Who has it:** moderators and indie devs running a PRAW bot for a 1k+ WAU subreddit (flair bots, auto-moderation helpers, digest posters), and small SaaS founders whose product ingests Reddit.

**Smallest product:** send the repo → agent produces a Devvit (TypeScript) app with the same triggers, a test plan, and the migration-program application text; founder reviews and the customer submits. Flat fee; if the customer receives the $1,000 award, the port costs less than the award.

**What exists and why it doesn't solve it**
- Reddit's own Devvit docs and the $1,000 program — no one to do the port; awards "limited and subject to Reddit's discretion".
- redditapis.com / SocialCrawl / snitchfeed — scraping/data alternatives for readers, not for bots that must act inside Reddit.

**Price / who pays:** $600 per bot (≤3 triggers), $1,200 for bots with storage/scheduler. Paid by the mod team/indie dev, partially reimbursed by Reddit's award if selected.

**How the agent runs it:** agent reads the PRAW code, writes the Devvit app, runs the Devvit playtest, drafts the application; founder does the 30-min review and handles the customer's Reddit account access (never touches it).

**Build estimate:** 3 founder-days (Devvit skeletons for the 5 common bot shapes + intake).

**First ten customers:** authors of the r/redditdev threads above; r/modhelp and r/redditdev "PRAW to Devvit" posts (agent finds weekly; founder posts — bots get banned); GitHub search for repos importing `praw` updated in 2026 with subreddit names in README; Discord of r/redditdev.

**Kill signal:** Reddit cancels or changes the program ("may be modified or canceled at any time"), or 15 outreach messages yield zero paid ports by Oct 15.

**Biggest risk:** time-boxed market (ends Dec 31) and Reddit hostility to anything that looks like automation around the platform. Treat it as a 90-day episode, not a company.

---

## Ideas considered and dropped (with the reason)
- **Link-fee relay for X ($0.20/link)** — real pain (Techmeme now posts "Techmeme dot com", TechCrunch Apr 22, 2026; HN Apr 21 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47850159) but the only workarounds are ToS-grey (session posting) or re-selling the same $0.20. OpenTweet/Postproxy already occupy the relay position.
- **Summoned-reply bot** — replies need the author to mention you, and "any AI-powered automated reply bot requires prior written and explicit X approval" (vorplabs, Jul 30, 2026). Folded into Idea 4 as human-tap replies.
- **Reddit pain-mining** — that's painboard (excluded).
- **App Store link-out fee** — Apple's 5–15% is a proposal in a court filing (Aug 14, 2026), not in force; no first-hand indie complaints found yet.
- **LinkedIn/Threads/Bluesky migration tooling** — no dated first-hand pain found in Jul–Sep 2026; only vendor comparison posts.

## Counts
- Web searches run: 48 (WebSearch) + 6 Hacker News Algolia queries = 54
- URLs cited in this brief: 62
- Not found: first-hand Georgian founder X/Reddit posts in Jul–Sep 2026 (only dev.to + guides); named indie "my traffic died in July" posts; LinkedIn/Threads/Bluesky pain threads; direct fetch of r/redditdev threads (blocked) and X post replies (robots-blocked).
