# Brief 6b: X growth cases, small to meaningful reach, 2025–2026

Researched September 4, 2026. Budget of 45 searches/fetches was fully used. x.com status pages could not be fetched directly, so post stats come from analytics mirrors (SuperX, TwitterScore), blogs, newsletters, Indie Hackers posts and press. Where a number comes from only one source, it is marked single-source. Where a before-number could not be found, that is said plainly rather than guessed.

Threshold used: crossed 10k followers, or shows consistent 50k+ views per post, with the growth happening inside 2025–2026. Accounts that are clearly under threshold but are recent, well-documented and in the founder's own words are kept in a separate "early-stage" group because they are the closest thing to a how-to that exists for 2026.

---

## Group A: accounts that crossed the threshold in 2025–2026

### 1. Natia Kurdadze (@natiakourdadze) — plain founder, marketing/startup accelerator

- Builds/posts about: startup growth hacks, landing pages, "first 100 users", directory lists; runs Viral Marketing Lab and a startup accelerator product. https://natiakourdadze.substack.com/p/how-i-got-33000-followers-on-x-in
- Cadence: public commitment to post once a day for a year (started Sept 16, 2023); SuperX shows 22,638 total posts, so in practice several posts and many replies per day. https://superx.so/creators/natiakourdadze
- Hook style: phase 1 memes (made in Imgflip from Reddit-sourced formats), phase 2 tactical "cheat codes" lists ("YC landing page cheat codes every startup founder should know"), phase 3 engagement prompts ("Drop your website URL and I'll give you 1 tip to improve your hero section"). https://superx.so/creators/natiakourdadze
- Replies: not described in her article; the engagement-prompt posts generate hundreds of replies that she answers (511 replies on the Nov 12, 2025 post). https://superx.so/creators/natiakourdadze
- Specific posts: Nov 12, 2025 "Drop your website URL" prompt: 4.47M views, 233 likes, 511 replies. Jun 13, 2025 "YC landing page cheat codes": 510k views, 2,464 likes. Jun 23, 2025 "first 100 users": 287k views, 2,194 likes. https://superx.so/creators/natiakourdadze
- Followers before/after: ~0 on Sept 16, 2023; 10,000 after ~8 months (approx May 2024); 22,000+ in the body / 33,000 in the title of her May 28, 2025 post; 38,000 in a follow-up post; 43,218 on SuperX as of Sept 2026. Two sources (own Substack, SuperX). https://natiakourdadze.substack.com/p/how-i-got-38000-followers-on-x-in
- What she credits, in her words: "Once you get a decent attention with meme marketing, start posting educational content." Paid courses she says she used: Justin Welsh's Content OS and Dagobert Renouf's Dominate Twitter. https://natiakourdadze.substack.com/p/how-i-got-33000-followers-on-x-in
- Premium/giveaways/pods: no mention of Premium, giveaways or pods. Uses a lead magnet in bio. Note: the follower count crossed 10k in 2024, but the 10k to 43k stretch and the multi-million-view posts happened in 2025–2026.

### 2. Roy Lee (@im_roy_lee) — startup founder, Cluely

- Builds/posts about: Cluely ("cheat on everything" AI overlay), company drama, fundraising, contrarian takes. https://superx.so/creators/im_roy_lee
- Cadence: 4,133 total posts on an account that only became active in early 2025; roughly 5–10 posts/day at peak, most of it short takes and replies. https://superx.so/creators/im_roy_lee
- Hook style: outrage/rage-bait framing, dramatic announcements, "I got suspended from Columbia" style personal stakes. In his words: "I think I'm particularly good at framing myself in a way that's controversial." https://www.inc.com/ava-levinson/the-cheating-app-founder-explains-how-to-rage-bait-your-startup-to-success/91259491
- Replies: his own posts draw 300–2,000 replies each on big moments; he replies to critics and quote-posts them to keep the fight alive rather than doing reply-guy outreach. https://superx.so/creators/im_roy_lee
- Specific posts: Feb 28, 2025 Amazon-interview post: 8M views, 28k likes, 1.5k retweets. Apr 20, 2025 "Cluely is out. cheat on everything": 13.2M views, 26k likes, 4k retweets. Jun 27, 2025 launch: 3M views, 12k likes. https://superx.so/creators/im_roy_lee
- Followers before/after: before Feb 2025 he was a Columbia sophomore with no public following (no numeric source found; treat "under 2k" as inference). After: 249,664 on SuperX, Sept 2026. Growth timing corroborated by TechCrunch coverage of the viral posts. https://techcrunch.com/2025/10/23/cluelys-roy-lee-joins-techcrunch-disrupt-2025-to-show-how-rage-baiting-cuts-through-the-ai-noise/
- What he credits: rage-baiting as a deliberate distribution strategy (TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 session title: "how rage-baiting cuts through the AI noise"); later admitted "viral hype is not enough". https://techcrunch.com/2025/11/05/cluelys-roy-lee-hints-that-viral-hype-is-not-enough/
- Premium/giveaways/pods: not documented. Caveat: see "faked it" section; he admitted in March 2026 that a revenue figure he gave the press was invented, which taints any self-reported number from this account.

### 3. aixbt (@aixbt_agent) — agent-run account (crypto market commentary)

- Builds/posts about: an autonomous AI agent, launched on Virtuals Protocol by pseudonymous creator "Rxbt" in late Nov 2024, that posts crypto "narrative analysis" and replies to traders. https://decrypt.co/299393/what-is-aixbt-ai-crypto-influencer
- Cadence: continuous; dozens of posts and replies per day, many of them replies to named accounts (it argues back when challenged, e.g. with Kyle Samani). https://decrypt.co/299393/what-is-aixbt-ai-crypto-influencer
- Hook style: lowercase, terse, "insider" tone; token calls and narrative summaries; no links, no threads.
- Replies: replies to whoever mentions it, including big accounts, which is what made it visible; Kaito ranked it #1 on its mindshare leaderboard within a month. https://x.com/0x_Abdul/status/1872268630580207737
- Specific posts: Dec 29, 2024 "ai agent sector projected $100B by Q1 2025" style calls; individual view counts not retrievable. https://x.com/aixbt_agent/status/1873491384117887175
- Followers before/after: 0 at launch (Nov 30, 2024); "nearly 300,000 followers on X in less than two months" (Decrypt, Jan 2025); 399,800 on Jan 17, 2025 (CoinLaunch); "close to 500k" per a Feb 26, 2025 post by @_dexuai. Two independent sources for the after-number. https://coinlaunch.space/influencers/aixbt_agent/ and https://x.com/_dexuai/status/1894760627949674967
- What is credited: no creator quote found. Decrypt's explanation is that it tracks "narratives related to the projects" rather than doing research, and that the token's price (from $0.02 to $0.65 in a month) made every mention self-interested. Treat this as token-incentive growth, not content growth. https://decrypt.co/299393/what-is-aixbt-ai-crypto-influencer
- Premium/giveaways/pods: the $AIXBT token functioned as a financial incentive for holders to amplify the account; that is closer to a giveaway/pod than to organic growth.

### 4. John Lee (@aiktp_com) — automation-flavored (AI reply tool founder), flagged

- Builds/posts about: EngageX.click, an AI reply/scheduling tool; his account is the demo. https://engagx.substack.com/p/from-0-to-10k-followers-how-i-grew
- Cadence: "500–600 quality comments + 1–2 posts daily", per his own write-up. https://engagx.substack.com/p/from-0-to-10k-followers-how-i-grew
- Hook style: "99% of X users get this wrong", "It took me a year to understand this". https://engagx.substack.com/p/from-0-to-10k-followers-how-i-grew
- Replies: replies are the whole strategy; targets trending posts, and he says replies are "what grow your account fastest". https://engagx.substack.com/p/from-0-to-10k-followers-how-i-grew
- Specific post: example he cites: https://x.com/aiktp_com/status/1989812928082841934 ; he claims the account reached "5,000 likes — 273,000 impressions per day". Single source, self-reported.
- Followers before/after: 0 in mid-August 2025 to 12,900 about 30 days later (early Sept 2025). Single source (his own Substack); SuperX mirror returned 404.
- What he credits: understanding "2 completely different types of people" on X and matching the strategy to each; and his own tool. https://engagx.substack.com/p/from-0-to-10k-followers-how-i-grew
- Premium/giveaways/pods: not mentioned. Caveat: 500+ AI-assisted replies a day is reply-bot behaviour by any reasonable definition and is the pattern X's 2025–2026 spam enforcement targets. Listed here because it is one of the few 0-to-10k-in-2025 claims with a URL, not as a recommendation.

### 5. Yasser Elsaid (@yasser_elsaid_) — plain SaaS founder, Chatbase

- Builds/posts about: Chatbase (custom ChatGPT chatbots); 117 days from launch to $1M ARR, later $6.8M ARR. https://stormy.ai/blog/viral-twitter-strategy-chatbase-playbook
- Cadence: daily posts; the growth engine was product-demo videos with a ChatGPT-like streaming UI and "under 20-second time-to-value". https://stormy.ai/blog/viral-twitter-strategy-chatbase-playbook
- Hook style: demo video first, one line of text; tags infrastructure partners (LangChain, Pinecone) so their accounts repost. https://stormy.ai/blog/viral-twitter-strategy-chatbase-playbook
- Replies: not reply-guy style; distribution came from partner reposts and timing launches within 48 hours of major AI announcements.
- Specific posts: not retrievable with numbers in this pass.
- Followers before/after: started with 16 followers on X (Stormy/Starter Story). After-number not retrieved (SuperX page 404). Single-source on the before number. https://stormy.ai/blog/viral-twitter-strategy-chatbase-playbook
- What he credits, in his words (Better Launch summary of his podcast): "one viral tweet won't do it" — daily posts plus personality; and "minimizing the seconds to the 'aha moment'". https://www.betterlaunch.co/playbooks/category/audience
- Premium/giveaways/pods: none mentioned. Note: the 16-follower start predates 2025; included because the playbook is the most frequently cited SaaS-founder reference in 2026 growth writing.

### 6. Nizzy (@nizzyabi) — plain SaaS/open-source founder, Zero email then Orchid

- Builds/posts about: Zero (open-source email client that went viral on GitHub in early 2025), now cofounder/CEO of Orchid; ex-Cal.com. https://twitterscore.io/twitter/nizzyabi/
- Cadence: 32,987 posts on the account, i.e. an extremely high reply volume (tens per day). https://twitterscore.io/twitter/nizzyabi/
- Hook style: short lowercase shipping updates, screenshots, GitHub star counts.
- Replies: a large share of his volume is replies inside the indie/dev cluster (Garry Tan, Nader Dabit and loomdart are among his "smart followers", per TwitterScore).
- Specific posts: not retrievable.
- Followers before/after: 21,712 as of Sept 2026 (TwitterScore). Before-number not found; the account was small before Zero's Feb–Mar 2025 GitHub surge but no numeric source was located. Single-source, partial.
- What he credits: no quote located in this pass.
- Premium/giveaways/pods: not documented.

---

## Group B: early-stage 2025–2026 accounts, under threshold but well-documented in the founder's own words

### 7. "Solopreneur Dad" / JonBuildsHQ — PageGains (landing-page critique SaaS)

- Cadence at peak: ~18 posts and 250+ replies in a single day; treated X "as a full-time job for 14 days". https://www.indiehackers.com/post/how-i-went-from-30-to-1-000-followers-on-x-in-14-days-94fcd933e1
- Hook style: "asking founders what they're building, asking controversial-but-small questions, talking about growth itself, or just genuinely encouraging people". Same URL.
- Followers: ~30 to 1,000+ in 14 days, posted May 21, 2026. Single source.
- In his words: "X growth is much more about replies than posting", and "a good reply on a large account can outperform anything you post to your own tiny audience"; "replies compound socially: people start seeing your name repeatedly." Same URL.
- Premium/giveaways/pods: none mentioned.

### 8. Graham Mann (@grahamkmann) — SEOTakeoff

- Cadence: 3–5 posts/day recommended for under-1k accounts, plus 30+ minutes/day replying to larger accounts. https://grahammann.net/blog/how-to-grow-on-x-twitter-2026
- Numbers: Dec 2025 inconsistent posting produced a 24% engagement drop and net follower loss; Jan–Feb 2026 daily posting plus replies produced 30–35 profile visits/day and 7–8 new follows/day. One reply: 12K impressions and 7 profile visits versus 400 impressions on an original post. Same URL. Single source.
- In his words: reply strategy on larger accounts is what moves profile visits; "proof-post habit" (weekly screenshots/metrics). Same URL.
- Premium: explicitly says X Premium verification gives a boost and that verified accounts get For You priority; warns against buying followers. Same URL.

### 9. Li Zeng (@lizengco) — Studio Salt (fractional design)

- Cadence: 1–2 posts/week early, 2–3/week by month 2; "spend 80% of your time commenting thoughtfully on others' posts", on a fixed list of 10–20 creators. https://news.lizeng.co/p/the-founder-s-guide-to-growing-on-x-from-0-to-2-000-followers
- Specific post: "full-time working mom with two young kids building a side business" story post: 26K impressions, 150+ likes, 200+ new followers. Same URL.
- Followers: 0 (late 2023) to 900+ by Aug 15, 2025. Single source.
- In her words: "Your first paying customer or meaningful business opportunity validates that people value what you offer" — she treats the first $35 sale, not follower count, as the milestone. Same URL.
- Premium/giveaways/pods: none mentioned.

### 10. Rob Hallam (@robj3d3) — SuperX (X analytics), $13k MRR

- Hook style: vulnerability posts; one failure post did "150,000 views on X" per his podcast appearance. https://www.betterlaunch.co/playbooks/category/audience
- In his words (Better Launch summary): growth came from "vulnerability posts + intentional engagement". Same URL.
- Followers: not retrieved. Included because the single-post number clears the 50k-views bar and the account is a plain SaaS founder building in public.

### 11. Farid Shukurov (@freds_gallery) — SupaBird (AI X-growth tool), automation-flavored, flagged

- Claims: a new account produced 560,000 impressions in 10 days with a reply-first approach; a creator went 0 to 500 followers in 30 days with ~1 hour/day. No URLs given. https://www.indiehackers.com/post/zero-followers-high-reach-how-to-get-impressions-on-x-in-2026-1dd99f725d
- In his words: "spend 80% of your time replying to viral tweets in your niche", within 30–60 minutes of the post gaining traction, on posts with few replies yet. Same URL.
- Premium: states verified accounts see 2–4x more first-hour impressions and Premium replies rank higher regardless of engagement. Same URL.
- Caveat: vendor content; the numbers are unverifiable and the author is selling the tool.

---

## Named but not usable as full cases (kept for the patterns section)

- Tony Dinh (@tdinh_me): 100 to 10k in 2021, 181k by 2026. Growth is outside the window; his "I DM'ed ~20 people daily" and feature-demo-as-marketing-tweet method is still the template most 2026 guides copy. https://supabird.io/articles/from-100-to-180k-followers-tony-dinh-s-twitter-x-growth-tactics-that-still-work-in-2026
- Jack Friks (@jackfriks, Post Bridge): ~40k followers; in his words "I never was trying to grow my Twitter as a goal... It was my goal to make something a business that's valuable. And along the way, I wanted to document it." No before-number in window. https://tbf.fm/episodes/396-jack-friks-building-tools-that-empower-without-overwhelming/transcript
- Prof. Lennart Nacke: reposted an old thread with a stronger hook and took it from 33,000 to 624,000 views; "Make sure you have banger content to go with a banger hook." Academic, not a founder. https://www.indiehackers.com/post/the-2026-x-growth-system-how-top-creators-engineer-virality-with-threads-replies-quote-posts-66200ecdc5
- Pren (Rabbit Holes AI): replies to adjacent conversations, "I was just hinting towards something related to my product". Sebastian Röhl (Habit Kit, $15k MRR): "Building in public was huge for me." No numbers for either. https://www.betterlaunch.co/playbooks/category/audience
- Marc Lou, Pieter Levels, Danny Postma, Jon Yongfook, Arvid Kahl: all 40k–500k+ but were already large before 2025. https://www.teract.ai/resources/twitter-strategy-indie-hackers-2026
- Teract's anonymous "500 to 50,000 in 8 months" and InnMind's "20 accounts, 0 to 20k in 8+ months": no handles, no URLs; vendor marketing, excluded. https://www.teract.ai/resources/grow-twitter-following-2026 and https://blog.innmind.com/x-growth-playbook-for-startup-founders-2026/

## Accounts that faked it, or whose growth you should not copy

- Roy Lee / Cluely: on March 5, 2026 he admitted the $7M ARR figure he gave TechCrunch in July 2025 was invented ("the only blatantly dishonest thing i've said publicly online, so this is my formal retraction"; "told her some bs"). Real June 2025 figures were $2.7M consumer and $2.5M enterprise ARR. The follower growth is real, but the numbers-in-posts were not, and the strategy depends on outrage that most SaaS founders cannot sustain or survive. https://techcrunch.com/2026/03/05/cluely-ceo-roy-lee-admits-to-publicly-lying-about-revenue-numbers-last-year/
- aixbt and the Virtuals agent wave: growth was token-incentivized; Haseeb Qureshi called them "chatbots with meme coins attached", and the agent admitted it had not read any code or whitepaper for projects it promoted. Follower counts in the hundreds of thousands came with a 48% "win rate" on calls. Not a content strategy. https://decrypt.co/299393/what-is-aixbt-ai-crypto-influencer and https://coinlaunch.space/influencers/aixbt_agent/
- OpenClaw/Moltbot bot swarms on X, Jan–Feb 2026: bots posting and arguing with each other about "freedom", amplified by 60k–100k+ accounts as "AGI"; the Developia write-up calls it "scheduled automation executing standing instructions". Moltbook, the agent social network, "went viral because of fake posts" per TechCrunch (Meta acquired it in March 2026). Bloomberg documented an OpenClaw agent spamming its owner with 500 messages. Agent-posted volume is the 2026 spam signature. https://developia.substack.com/p/when-bots-start-talking-back , https://techcrunch.com/2026/03/10/meta-acquired-moltbook-the-ai-agent-social-network-that-went-viral-because-of-fake-posts/ , https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-02-04/openclaw-s-an-ai-sensation-but-its-security-a-work-in-progress
- EngageX / @aiktp_com: 500–600 AI-assisted comments a day to reach 12.9k followers in 30 days. This is reply-bot volume; expect it to be throttled or banned, and expect the followers to be low-quality. https://engagx.substack.com/p/from-0-to-10k-followers-how-i-grew
- Bought followers as an openly marketed product: Indie Hackers now carries listicles such as "7 Best Sites to Buy X (Twitter) Followers in 2026" and "I Tested 9 Services for 58 Days". These are vendor placements; Graham Mann's guide explicitly warns that fake followers kill reach. https://www.indiehackers.com/post/7-best-sites-to-buy-x-twitter-followers-in-2026-e37f248571 , https://www.indiehackers.com/post/best-sites-to-buy-twitter-x-followers-in-2026-i-tested-9-services-for-58-days-68f7a0f8e4 , https://grahammann.net/blog/how-to-grow-on-x-twitter-2026
- Engagement pods: no named founder was caught in this pass; the Hacker News thread "I followed a lot of indie hackers and 'build in public' accounts" is the best public skeptic's account of how much of the cluster's engagement is reciprocal. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43407164

## Patterns

- Replies to larger accounts are the primary engine below ~5k followers; every 2025–2026 first-person account says so and gives numbers. Supported by JonBuildsHQ (250 replies/day, "much more about replies than posting"), Graham Mann (one reply 12K impressions vs 400 on an original), Li Zeng (80% of time commenting on a fixed list of 10–20 creators), Farid Shukurov (80% replying, within 30–60 min), John Lee (500+ replies/day, extreme end).
- Volume is high at the start and stays high: 3–5 original posts/day plus replies is the floor named by Graham Mann; Natia posted daily for a year; Nizzy's account has 33k posts; Roy Lee 4k posts in 18 months. Nobody in the set grew on 1–2 posts/week except Li Zeng, who is still under 1k.
- The first spike is almost always a single format that is visually novel or emotionally loaded, not a thread: Roy Lee's 8M-view Amazon post, Yasser's ChatGPT-like demo videos, Natia's memes, Rob Hallam's failure post (150k views), Lennart Nacke's re-hooked thread (33k to 624k views). Threads and "banger hooks" only work with something behind them.
- Engagement-prompt posts ("drop your URL and I'll give you one tip") are the highest-view format in the set: Natia's Nov 2025 prompt did 4.47M views with only 233 likes and 511 replies, which is exactly the signature the reply-weighted algorithm rewards. JonBuildsHQ's "asking founders what they're building" is the small-account version.
- Growth is a byproduct of shipping something people can see, not of posting about growth: Jack Friks ("never was trying to grow my Twitter as a goal"), Tony Dinh (every feature becomes a marketing tweet), Nizzy (Zero's GitHub surge), Yasser (demo-first). The accounts that post about growth itself (Natia, John Lee, Farid) are selling growth products.
- Premium matters and is now said out loud: Graham Mann and Farid Shukurov both state verified accounts get 2–4x first-hour reach and reply priority. None of the named human accounts credit giveaways or pods; the two "agent" cases (aixbt, OpenClaw swarms) grew on token incentives and bot volume respectively, which is the pod pattern in new clothes.
- Consistency failure is measurable within a month: Graham Mann's December 2025 gap produced a 24% engagement drop and net follower loss, reversed within weeks by daily posting. Natia's one-post-a-day public commitment is the same lesson from the positive side.
- Self-reported numbers from growth-tool founders (John Lee, Farid, Teract, InnMind) are the least reliable in the set; the most reliable are third-party mirrors (SuperX, TwitterScore) and press (TechCrunch, Decrypt), and even those only give the after-number.

---

## Exclusions and limits

- Could not fetch x.com directly, so no post-level bookmark counts and no historical follower charts (TwitterScore paywalls history). Before-numbers for Roy Lee, Nizzy and Yasser's after-number are missing; SuperX mirror pages returned 404 for @aiktp_com, @yasser_elsaid_ and @nizzyabi.
- Two "agent-run" cases (aixbt; OpenClaw/Moltbook swarms) are documented; a third founder-operated agent account with before/after numbers was not found. Searches for OpenClaw-run founder accounts returned only setup guides (Postiz, OpenTweet, Medium), none with results.
- Alex Finn, Kevin Kern, Ras Mic, Vasuman Moza and Tom Dörr (GitHub-repo poster, suspected automation) were searched but no third-party before/after numbers or first-person growth quotes surfaced within budget.
- Several first-person 2026 stories are under 2k followers (JonBuildsHQ, Li Zeng, Graham Mann); included in Group B because they are the freshest founder-voice material, but they do not meet the 10k bar.
- Vendor content (Teract, InnMind, SupaBird, EngageX, Stormy, Better Launch) is used only where it names a real account or quotes a founder; the anonymous case studies are excluded.

## Counts

- Accounts profiled: 11 (6 over-threshold in Group A, 5 early-stage in Group B), plus 6 named-but-not-usable and 6 "faked it" entries.
- Accounts with before/after numbers from two sources: 2 (Natia Kurdadze; aixbt). Roy Lee has two sources for the after-number and a documented viral-post timeline but no numeric before.
- Accounts single-source: 8 (John Lee, Yasser Elsaid, Nizzy, JonBuildsHQ, Graham Mann, Li Zeng, Rob Hallam, Farid Shukurov).
- Agent/automation-flavored: 4 (aixbt, OpenClaw swarms in the faked section, John Lee/EngageX, Farid/SupaBird). Plain SaaS/founder: 6 (Natia, Roy Lee, Yasser, Nizzy, JonBuildsHQ, Rob Hallam, Graham Mann, Li Zeng — the last two are early-stage).
- Sources checked: 45 search/fetch calls; 27 distinct URLs read or fetched, including Indie Hackers (4), Substack (3), SuperX (2), TwitterScore (1), TechCrunch (3), Decrypt (1), Inc (1), CoinLaunch (1), Better Launch (1), Stormy (1), Teract (2), InnMind (1), Graham Mann (1), Li Zeng (1), TBF podcast transcript (1), Supabird (1), GitHub (1), Developia (1), Medium (1).
